The Centre for Disaster Protection is working with international development experts globally to define and quantify pre-arranged disaster funding.

 

The UK is currently the third largest contributing donor to the UN Central Emergency Response Fund. This research is beneficial to donors, as it helps them understand how their funds are being efficiently utilised. Anticipatory measures like pre-arranged financing can greatly improve disaster preparedness, increase readiness for impact, and enhance overall response capabilities, resulting in better response and recovery outcomes. This study emphasises the necessity for more pre-planned crisis financing. The initial analysis identifies five crucial findings about the amount of Overseas Development Assistance directed towards pre-planned financing and where it is currently employed in the broader context of crisis funding.
