The University of Manchester has been awarded £4.3 million to build a secure and resilient world research and coordination hub called SALIENT (Secure And ResiLIENT), which will bring Manchester academics together with partners from Bath, Exeter, and Sussex universities to address some of the UK’s most challenging resilience and security problems. The hub will focus on strengthening resilience in natural and built environments, behavioural and cultural resilience, global order in a time of change, technologies for security and defence, and robust and secure supply chains. It will collaborate with government, academia, and industry to tackle complex challenges such as food shortages and flooding. The hub aims to ensure that people are at the heart of future solutions by emphasising the importance of various voices and experiences to shape future solutions. This project represents a strategic effort to address society’s multifaceted security and resilience issues.
