The UK Parliament Public Accounts Committee released a Report on the MoD Equipment Plan 2023-2033, stating that the Ministry of Defence lacks a realistic plan to fund and deliver the military equipment and personnel required by the government. The report highlights that MoD’s Equipment Plan has a budget deficit of £16.9bn, with the cost being £12bn higher if all costs were fully accounted for. The report warns that the MoD’s capability gaps and personnel shortages undermine the credibility of the UK’s Armed Forces and its deterrence effect, with an overreliance on international allies. The Public Accounts Committee sets out six main recommendations to the government related to budget discipline, consistent costing, nuclear transparency, industry confidence, procurement strategy, and allied support.
