In this article, James Crask, Consulting Director & Resilience Advisory Lead, UK & Ireland for Marsh, explores the role of AI in solving business supply chain problems. As the complexity of the interconnected global market systems has increased, traditional approaches to supply chain management can no longer accurately map, track and quantify the risks inherent within supply chains. This article posits that advances in AI and data science now enable vast quantities of data to be analysed for rapid assessment to manage long-term trends, based on detailed root cause analysis of issues embedded within supply chains. What was once a complex and resource-laden investment that would take six years can now be undertaken in just 72 hours, thanks to such advances in computing and analytics—arguing that such computing capabilities can be leveraged to increase operational resilience and sustainability for long-term risk.
