This Research and Analysis briefing report from the Government Office for Science follows a roundtable led by the MET Office. The roundtable aimed to establish a current understanding of the impacts of weather conditions on the UK’s renewable wind and solar energy supplies. The briefing report explores the connection between changing weather conditions, energy supply and energy demand against climate change and extreme weather. The roundtable additionally explored the risk of extreme weather on wind and solar energy production, maintenance, service delivery and risk management for increasing compound weather events. The briefing report concludes that to build greater resilience, several evidence gaps must be addressed to facilitate better risk management, including grid stability, modelling and data and implications for future infrastructure development.
