The Global Tipping Points Report was launched on the 6th December 2023 at COP28. The report provides an evidence-based assessment of the risks and opportunities arising from negative and positive tipping points within the earth’s system and global society. The report examines three key areas: (i) reviewing potential tipping points in the cryosphere, biosphere and ocean-atmospheric circulations and the implications for planetary life-support systems; (ii) human impacts of tipping points, including feedback with negative tipping points, on human social systems; and (iii) how tipping points and associated risks could be governed with positive tipping point pathways fostered through sustainable technology, economy and social advances.
