The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) has confirmed that 2023 was the hottest year on record, with climate change indicators reaching record levels. This included new broken records for ocean heat, sea level rise, Antarctic Sea ice loss and glacier retreat, concluding that extreme weather undermines socio-economic development. Whilst renewable energy transition provides opportunity WMO warns that the cost of climate inaction is higher than that of climate action.
