A recent article published in Earth-Science Review by Professor Iain Stewart titled Advancing Disaster Risk Communications, reviews existing risk communication models through the lens of science-communication, identifying different models such as: one-way DRR risk dissemination to the public, two-way dialogues for engagement and consultation on risk management process and three-way participatory conversations to facilitate action.

Nature has published an article by Researchers Andrew Tupper and Carina Fernley on how early disaster-warning systems can succeed — but collective action is needed. It provides an overview of global progress in developing multi-hazard early warning systems and the main barriers to implementation; the most prevalent of which remains national borders. The article sets out the essential requirements for developing a collaborative and participatory approach based on examples of good practices from around the globe for inclusive messaging, collaboration and investment to demonstrate the power of communications in delivering disaster and emergency preparedness.
