Heriot-Watt University, Stockholm Environment Institute, University of York and United Kingdom Research and Innovation have published a report, “Healthy Ageing in a Changing Climate” ” which follows a collaborative research project from 2022-2023 that explored the challenges and opportunities of extreme weather and climate change on ageing populations across the UK. The project was intended to build on work previously done by the WHO’s Age-Friendly Cities and Communities (AFCC) framework.

The project involved over 140 older adults and stakeholders from policy, practice and other specialists to co-design and develop solutions at the local, community and city level. The research has identified six action areas necessary to prepare and respond to the risk of climate change to enable healthy ageing in cities and communities in the UK.
