The Cabinet Office has released updated Guidance on the Roles of Lead Government Departments, Devolved Administrations, and Other Public Bodies. This guidance aims to explain how the UK government handles various emergencies and risks by utilising the Lead Government Department (LGD) model. Under this model, LGDs are tasked with leading and coordinating all aspects of integrated emergency management, from risk assessment to recovery. The guidance also clarifies the roles and responsibilities of other departments, Devolved Administrations, and other public bodies and emphasises the importance of a collaborative approach. Additionally, the guidance covers the risks outlined in the current UK National Risk Register (NRR) and includes a comprehensive list of LGDs for different types of emergencies and risks.
