A new report from Save the Children presents examples of child-centred early warning systems linked to the four pillars of the UNDRR Early Warning for All initiative. The report emphasises the importance of involving children in developing and implementing early warning systems, considering their unique abilities and collective potential to drive solutions. Children, especially those from least developed countries and small island developing states, are often the most affected by humanitarian disasters but least responsible for them. The findings show that in 2023, around 30% of the world’s population was under 18, and six out of the top ten most vulnerable countries also have the highest child population. The findings and examples are relevant to least-developed countries and small-island developing states. However, the lessons and principles are transferable to all working on child-centred early warning systems.
