The Verisk Maplecroft Political Risk Dataset provides 46 risk indices and predictive analytics into dynamic and structural political risks for over 198 countries. The latest data shows that multinational companies face rising political and security risks from nearshoring and friendshoring hubs, as they pivot their supply chains towards emerging markets to decrease exposure to widening geopolitical tensions and the strategic competition between the West and China. Based on five-year trends, the data has revealed increasing political risks across 27 of 40 emerging markets with crucial manufacturing hubs. This article by Principal Resilience Consultants Olivia Dobson and Patrick Roberts explains what this means in practice for multinational companies and supply chain risks.
