The Bournemouth University Disaster Management Centre (BUDMC) recently featured in Issue 4 of the UK Resilience Lessons Digest for its work on disaster management and resilience in Sierra Leone. The article highlighted two projects, AFRICAB (2018-2021) and EVALDIS (2022-23), directed by Professor Lee Miles, for their significant contributions to climate resilience and disaster management in Sierra Leone through impactful partnerships. The projects were recognised with the ‘Innovations that Inspire’ award from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business in 2023 for their role in building disaster management capacity in Africa. The UK Resilience Lesson Digest, Learning to Adapt, emphasises the importance of learning from the AFRICAB and EVALDIS projects, with their focus on identifying and addressing ‘resolvable single points of failure’ (SPOF) to enhance climate resilience.
