The Parliamentary Knowledge Exchange Unit has announced the latest round of applications for Parliamentary Thematic Research Leads (TRLs) has opened on 11th December 2023 and closes on 3rd March 2024. The scheme was piloted in 2023 in partnership with the ESRC and will now be expanded in partnership with UKRI.

TRLs are mid-career researchers embedded in Parliament, whilst retaining their substantive academic posts. The purpose is to facilitate and enhance the use of research evidence and expertise in Parliament (in both the House of Commons and House of Lords) through effective knowledge exchange and collaboration. TRL roles cover different specialisms including: AI and Digital, Arts and Humanities, Business, Economics and Trade, Climate and Environment, Crime and Justice, Health, International Affairs and National Security, and Transport.
