UKRI (UK Research and Innovation) has published its independent impact evaluation report of the UKRI Research and Innovation funding response to COVID-19.

The recently published report provides an independent assessment of the impacts achieved by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) in directing and supporting research and innovation activities to tackle the pandemic and its impacts. The report highlights the UK’s world-leading contribution and impact and concludes that the UK has achieved more measurable impact than any other country.

The report also evaluates enablers and barriers to impact, emphasising the UK’s prior experience and role in investment in vaccine development, disease modelling, and genome sequencing. It underlines the need for better preparedness for a broader range of future emergencies.

Reflecting on what UKRI and stakeholders have learned from the pandemic in key areas such as organisational resilience, public voice, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and agility, the report draws attention to the ongoing challenges of COVID-19 and associated variants, emphasising the importance of continued research and innovation efforts in combating the pandemic.
