The UK Government Defence Committee has launched an inquiry into how the UK’s Armed Forces can operate effectively in the “grey-zone” aggression, a type of conflict that operates outside armed warfare. The inquiry aims to find ways to address cyberattacks, information campaigns, and other hostile activities that can be used by adversaries to coerce or undermine the UK and its allies. The committee is also interested in exploring how the UK’s capabilities in the grey-zone aggression can be improved, including how well the MOD works with allies, how well the government coordinates across departments, how liberal democracies can cope with different forms of government, and what lessons can be learned from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
