The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has introduced an AI-powered tool that can provide real-time information in disaster-prone countries like the Philippines. The tool was developed by Spectee Inc., a Japanese startup. It uses data from social media, climate information, cameras, and other sources to visualise the crisis and filter out fake news. The tool is being piloted by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in selected agencies and local government units (LGUs) to mitigate disaster risks and save more lives. The tool is part of JICA’s private-public partnership (PPP) promotion program, which allows Japanese private companies to share their ideas and innovations for solving society’s problems in various sectors.
